Message from Senator Reid on Dr. King

Dear Stonewa, “I have a dream.” These four words and an unwavering devotion to their promise are why today we honor the life, the courage, and the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King envisioned a better America, courageously leading our fractured nation to achieve the greatness he saw within. And though we still grieve for his untimely death, Dr. King’s faith in our boundless potential to join together and raise ourselves beyond the ordinary is a radiant legacy that will never dim. Today, violence and tragedy have cast a pall over our country. We mourn together for the families and friends of Arizona’s victims and rejoice in the news of each recovery. And on this day of remembrance for one of our country’s greatest heroes, we are reminded of the heroism carried within each of us as we recognize the bravery of those who walk amongst us every day. As we honor Dr. King’s memory, let us work together to achieve his dream by being a little bit kinder, a little bit more compassionate, and a little bit more forgiving.
